Letter to the editor

To the editor:

For what it is worth, I would like to put my stamp of approval on the well-thought-out plan for a new school complex in Wellington. What a great opportunity for us to provide a first class facility at minimal cost to local taxpayers.

If you have not examined the brochure prepared by the Citizens for Wellington Schools, I urge you to do so with an open mind. You will learn that the additional monthly assessment for the homeowner would be less than a dinner for two at a modestly priced restaurant. If that is a sacrifice, I'm sure you'll agree our children are worth it.

Of course, the key to a good education rests with up-to-date materials and a good classroom teacher. However, it is difficult for the children to believe that we value their education when we say that our outdated buildings are "good enough."

It is a fact that there are tough economic times, but if we don't take advantage of this offer of state aid to upgrade our educational facilities, the opportunity will not come again in my lifetime and probably not in yours.

Lois Norton

Former WHS teacher
