Letter to the editor

To the editor:

I would like to ask for voters' help in regard to Issue 40 (new K-12 facilities). Please take the time to become informed on this critical issue before making a final decision. We are 14 days away from this important election and residents still have plenty of time. I have found in most situations that unsupportive opinions of this issue are changed after seeing the details and asking questions. Some of the biggest advocates of this project today are people who were unsupportive in the past. Once they truly became informed on the issue their opinion was changed. All I ask is that residents look at the details with an open mind and draw a fresh conclusion. If they can make this effort I respect their decision either way they choose to vote. How can they get more information? There are several ways. They can visit the official website 24/7 at www.wellingtonchanceofalifetime.com. They can attend an upcoming community event concerning the project (call 647-4286 for latest schedule or look on the website calendar). Watch channel 12 for various taped events. Or if they prefer, they can call superintendent Francis Scruci at 647-4286 for a one-on-one or group discussion.

By understanding the educational vision, economic responsibility, safety for students and urgency to act now, they will better understand why this is our chance of a lifetime. There will be no other opportunity to do this project at a later time for this cost. The state funding is offered now so it is our turn. There are no guarantees we will get money later, and if we would, we will get less and the project will cost more. So if I can leave each reader with the following, understand that our need to upgrade our schools is great and our time to act is now. Please educate yourself on this issue and ask questions, but above all cast an informed vote. Our legacy will reflect how we faced this issue.
