Marie Arlene Newberger, 78, of Wellington died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008 at EMH Medical Center in Elyria.
She was born in New York on Nov. 22, 1929, to the late Charles and Marie (Mason) Lewrence and she graduated from high school in Morgantown, W.Va. in 1947.
Mrs. Newberger worked at Cleveland Steel and Forest City Technologies and was a former member of the Wellington VFW. She enjoyed sewing and made clothes for her children. She also liked canning, scrapbooking, and playing the violin. She was a wonderful mom and grandmother who loved animals, especially her dog, Boomer.
Survivors include her three children, Janet Rickett of Sullivan, Joyce Corley of Medina and Theresa Corley of Wellington; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Newberger is also survived by a brother, Charles Lewrence of Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband and soul mate, Sidney Newberger and three children, Ronald, Diane and Daniel Corley.
Friends were received on Monday, Aug. 25 at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S. Main St., Wellington where funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. Pastor Danny Wright Sr. will officiate the service and burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Norton
Dan L. Norton, 61, of Spencer died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008 at Lodi Hospital.
Born in Oberlin on Aug. 27, 1946, son of the late Harold and Dorothy (Shipman) Norton, he was a 1964 graduate of Wellington High School and earned his associate's degree from the University of Virginia.
Mr. Norton served as an officer for the Ohio State Highway Patrol for 10 years. He also worked at the Medina County Sheriff's Department for 15 years and was the chief deputy. He was a bomb technician for Medina County and trained the first FBI dog, Apollo, his partner of eight years, to search for explosives and missing persons. He was the instructor for the Medina County Canine Unit and was a firearms expert who taught firearms instruction at the Medina County Career Center.
Mr. Norton was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Lodi. He loved his farm and deeply enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Norton of 43 years; three children, Jamie Norton of Texas, Jodi (Scott) Steiskal of Nova, and Peggy (Dan) Kunsman of Sullivan; and eight grandchildren, Amanda (Jimmy Kurtz) Norton, Danielle Norton, Taylor (Don Wertz) Norton, Randi (Jason) Miller, Dusty Steiskal, Bobby Steiskal, Zoe Kunsman, and Mya Kunsman. He is also survived by two sisters, Peggy Reed and Joan Whitney, and a brother, Harold Norton, all of Wellington. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and William Norton and a sister, Dorothy Sutliff.
