Fred T.
Timko, Jr.
Fred F. Timko, Jr., 76, died Nov. 4, 2008 following a short illness at the home of his daughter and son-in-law in Chillicothe, Ohio.
Born in Barberton, Ohio, on July 18, 1932, Mr. Timko was the son of the late Fred and Mildred Timko, Sr. Mr. Timko lived in Homerville and in the Huntington area before retiring to Ft. Myers, Fla. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Mr. Timko worked at the Sterling Foundry in Wellington for several years and also owned and operated the Do Drop Inn in Huntington for many years. He was a member of the VFW posts in both Wellington and Ft. Myers. Mr. Timko enjoyed fishing, hunting, and coaching and playing baseball.
Survivors include his son, Fred F. (Shannon) Timko III, of Mansfield, and his daughters, Lona Blake of Xenia, Louise (Tony) Gossman of Wellington, Mickey (Les) Handley of Sullivan and Paddy (Lewis) Johnson of Chillicothe. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gerrie in 1986, a brother, Gilbert Rothrock, and a sister, Helen Biddinger.
Funeral services were held Nov. 8 at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home in Wellington with Rev. James Reymann officiating. Burial followed at the York Township Cemetery in Mallet Creek. Condolences may be expressed online at www.norton-eastmanfuneralhome.com.
Virgil M.
DeFields
Virgil M. DeFields, 91, of Elyria, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008 at Arden Courts of Westlake.
He was born April 6, 1917, in Penfield, Ohio, where he graduated from Penfield High School in 1936.
He served with the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant during WWII in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre, and as a member of the Signal Corps with the 43rd Infantry Division, and was awarded the Bronze Star for operations against the enemy at Luzon on the Philippine Islands.
He was employed as an auto mechanic with Murphy Brothers in Elyria for 27 years, retiring in 1982. He was a 60-year member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Elyria, and a member of Elyria American Legion Post 12 and Elyria Senior Fellowship.
Mr. DeFields is survived by his wife of 66 years, Virginia I. (nee Leach); daughters Kay L. (Scott) Scofield of Battle Creek, Mich.; Carol L. (Fred) AuWerter of Deerfield, Ill.; grandchildren Kristin and Timothy Scofield and Paul and John AuWerter.
He was preceded in death by brothers Adelbert and Clinton DeFields; sister Alvernan Rollin Biggs; and his parents, Alfonzo and Marie DeFields.
Visitation was Friday at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Ave. Elyria. A funeral service was Saturday at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 330 Second St., Elyria, with Reverend Christina Kukuk officiating. Burial was at Penfield Cemetery.
