Storm dumps snow, makes a mess of Ohio roads

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Crashes have littered icy roads and schools are delayed throughout much of northern and central Ohio as winter makes an extended early visit.

Snow has been heaviest in northeast Ohio, where a lake effect snow advisory is in effect until 4 p.m. Tuesday. National Weather Service meteorologist Dan Leins (LY'-unhz) says the deepest snow is in Geauga (jee-AW'-guh) County east of Cleveland, where as much as 8 inches are on the ground.

Other parts of Ohio were waking Tuesday to a dusting of snow for the second straight morning, though this time it was enough to leave drivers dealing with a glaze of ice.

Authorities reported several early morning accidents around Toledo and Columbus, including a chain-reaction crash involving about 20 vehicles on a Columbus freeway. No serious injuries were reported.
