Dukes win final outing of season

On Friday night the Wellington Dukes went wild on the Wildcats from Keystone and dominated the game with an impressive 40-6 win.

Homecoming King Steve Simonson strutted his royal stuff and accounted for 230 of Wellington's 402 total yards.

Keystone won the toss, received the opening kickoff, and returned the ball to the Wellington 15 yard line. Five plays later Austen Gray put the pressure on Keystone quarterback Tyler Minnich who threw a pass that was intercepted by Charlie Coleman. The Dukes drove down the field with a 37 yard run by Jerry Herman and a 23 yard run by Steve Simonson. A 9 yard run by Herman gave the Dukes the first touchdown of the night.

Keystone took the kickoff but was unable to move the ball. They punted the ball to the Dukes and several runs later Simonson scored a touchdown on a 27 yard run. With a good PAT, the score was a shutout, Dukes 15, Wildcats 0. At the start of the second quarter, Keystone had to punt again and this time Simonson scored on a 5 yard run. Keystone received the punt but on this series of downs Matt Ramage made two good defensive stops and Justin Walker also made a defensive stop that forced Keystone to punt.

The Dukes took over the ball, moved down the field and Simonson scored on a 29 yard run. Keystone moved the ball with a 64 yard run by Ryan Clement who took the ball to the Wellington 15 yard line. Again the defense rose to the occasion with Walker tackling Keystone's Minnich for a 10 yard loss that kept Keystone out of the end zone. When the first half ended, the Dukes were leading with an aggressive 26-0.

Austin Fullen returned the opening kick off of the second half to the Keystone 38. On the first play from scrimmage, John Bowman passed to Simonson out in the flats and he threw to Fullen for a touchdown. The PAT was good and the scoreboard read Dukes 33-Wildcats 0.

Keystone was stopped and forced to punt with good defensive plays by Matt Ramage and Jason Schramm. The Dukes took over with Simonson passing to Coleman for a 43 yard touchdown. The Wildcats were finally able to score late in the fourth quarter, but at the end of the night the scoreboard read Dukes 40, Wildcats 6.

The Dukes travel to Brookside this Friday to take on the Cardinals.
