South Amherst village council At-a-Glance
At the Oct. 13 regular meeting of the South Amherst village council (members present Robert James, Dennis Burdue, John Green and Donna Hauck, Barbara Becker and David Leshinski), council:
* Heard questions and concerns regarding privacy and safety along the Palmer Pathway leading into the park.
* The mayor reported that Dumpster Days held on Oct. 3 and 4 was a success with three dumpsters being filled; a Century Tel truck sank at the corner of Church and Leonard streets; a blocked tile will be cleaned out with a jet rod; and the street striping will not be done this year.
* The clerk attended CE in Hudson, Ohio. She also had information on options for payments of Income Tax that was e-mailed via John Peck's office.
* It was noted that the owner of Gildy's hasn't been contacted as of yet. Also the work at 225 Oakdale hasn't been done either. The mayor will follow up on the Maple and Fern Street ditch issue and let council know. A number of street lights are not working between 891 and 895 South Lake Street, at the end of the Town Hall drive, and also on Russia Road. The village garage needs to be cleaned up and the tools put away and organized.
* The police are losing more reserve officers; Jessica Ontko, Alfred Clemency, and Tim Horvath. The fire department received two resignations by Martin Knoble and John Johnson of which council approved. Council also approved Matthew Abfall from auxiliary firefighter to regular firefighter status.
* Approved a grant which the fire department obtained from Gatchell Resources in the amount of $16,550 with the village portion being $1,324.
* Approved to have gold leaf lettering put on the fire truck at a cost of $562.
* The Lorain County JVS has begun work on the park pavilion.
* It was reported by the BPA that all water meters will be read in December. As of January they would like to begin reading meters every month. This will hopefully take care of a lot of confusion and errors. Dennis thinks it will take eight to 10 days to read all the meters in town. Also, the board discussed raising the minimum gallons used.
* The fence down by the village garage was damaged. Randy was getting some quotes but in the meantime, the mayor will check with Custis Insurance. Also, some orange traffic cones are needed.
* Approved the bills as presented.
