Family honors mother with holy water font in student chapel

The Goodwin family gathered at St. Joseph School recently to honor their mother, Mary Goodwin, for the loving dedication she showed to her family, to the church, and to the school. When the children of Mary Goodwin heard the school's remodeling now included an intimate chapel for daily student use, they decided this was the perfect place for a memorial to their mother.

Although the chapel had stained glass windows, an altar, pews and statues, it did not have a holy water font. The family decided a font was a fitting way to remember their mother for the "river of faith" that flowed throughout their lives.

Mary Goodwin served as both Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader in the parish and sent all her children through the parochial school system.

A prayer service with Bible readings, hymns and a blessing were conduced by the seventh grade with teacher Elaine Manges. Afterward the seventh graders gave a tour of the school to their guests.

Attending the service were daughters and sons-in-law Delores and Dick Kollhoff of LaGrange, Rita and Dana Thomas of South Lyon, Mich., Laura Moyes of LaGrange, and Patrice Sabala of North Olmsted. Son Bill Goodwin Jr. of Phoenix, Ariz., could not attend. Other guests were niece and nephew Rosaline and Tom George and long-time friends Leslie and Jeff Howell.
