Issue 5 will not increase taxes

To the editor:

Issue 5 is a 10-year street improvement replacement levy, which will give the city permission to redirect a portion of the current half-percent income tax for street improvements. This will allow an allocation of one-quarter percent to the street improvement fund and the remaining one-quarter percent to the general fund.

The downturn in the economy has affected the city as it has all of us. Approval of Issue 5 will enable the city to offset the anticipated $1 million shortfall in the general fund in 2010 and be able to maintain the current level of safety forces in the police and fire department, continue our street improvement program, while maintaining our quality snow removal program.

This is the same half percent you are presently paying, just a redirection of some of the money. This is a win-win situation for our city with, "NO INCREASE IN YOUR TAXES." Please vote FOR Issue 5.

Lonnie D. Dillon, Chief of Police

Wayne Northeim, Fire Chief
