Walker James Gorney
Walker James
Gorney
Walker (Boo) James Gorney, earned his angel wings Friday, April 11, 2008 at Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth, Va. Boo was victorious in his battle with cancer, but was left weakened by the treatment. His story is chronicled at www.caringbridge.org/visit/walkergorney.
Boo's mommy is Laura (Smith) Gorney who is a graduate of Amherst High School, Class of 1989.
Boo was given to us on Feb. 20, 2004 in Cary, N.C. Through the blessing of his life, we all had a true example of an innocent and gentle spirit. He had a radiant spirit which will be right at home in his new heavenly home.
He never ran out of love to offer which was always freely expressed through his affectionate presence. Boo's compassionate nature was always felt by his constant concern for everyone around him. He found ways to fill every moment with fun.
Boo's favorite role-model was his big brother, Mason. The two boys enjoyed every moment they spent together. Mason's newest interests immediately captivated Boo as well. We are all saddened that our time with him was cut short, but we know that everyone he touched will never be the same.
He was well loved by all of his medical caretakers who were all drawn in by his infectious grin. These especially include Dr. McManaman, Dr. Porea, Dawn, Lucy, Shandra, Gloria, Kristin (Kiisstin), Laura, Jessica, Hillary, Jason, Rucker (Wucka), Liz, Jean, and countless others who have become our second family these last four months.
Boo is survived by his blessed mommy and daddy, Laura and Charlie; his caring big brother, Mason; his paternal grandparents Patricia Derreberry, Knoxville, Tenn., Edwin Gorney, Sr, and step-grandmother, Maria, Mirimar, Fla.; maternal grandparents David and Lala Smith, Knoxville; uncle and aunt Edwin and Kat Gorney, and cousin, Teddy, Knoxville; paternal great-grandparents, Edith Gorney, Syracuse, N.Y.; J.B. and Nora Derreberry, Knoxville; maternal great-grandmother, Thelma McKinney, Roan Mountain, Tenn.; two very special cousins, Hayley and Alesha Sisk, Johnson City, Tenn.; many more extended family members; and "Aunt and Uncle" Lynn and George Gotsis and "Cousin" Niko, Amherst.
