Police Blotter for Aug. 26

Aug. 12, 3:05 a.m.: While on patrol, sergeant Mark Cawthon was dispatched to Denny's, 900 N. Leavitt Rd., regarding a party of three who left the all-night diner without paying their bill.

According to a Denny's employee, the two males and a female came in to the restaurant, ordered $29.17 worth of food and left the restaurant.

They described the suspects as a white male with short hair and tattoos on his forearm. He was also wearing a black jacket.

The other white male is described as having brown hair and wearing a white shirt with a dollar bill on it. The white female was wearing a black shirt and had long brown hair.

The incident is currently under investigation.

Aug. 12, 11:01 p.m.: Officer Devin Small and sergeant Mark Cawthon responded to the five points intersection in reference to several juveniles throwing things at passing cars and yelling vulgar language from the bandstand.

Upon arrival Cawthon found seven 15-year-old juveniles sitting in the bandstand not yelling or throwing things.

One of the 15-year-old juveniles was cited for curfew and ordered to appear in Lorain County Juvenile Court when notified. His mother, Jessica Acevedo, was issued a citation for parental responsibility and was ordered to appear in Oberlin Municipal Court on Monday, Aug. 28 at 8:30 a.m. Her son was then released in to her custody.

The other six 15-year-old juveniles were advised of the complaint and told to leave the area.

Aug. 13, 2:08 a.m.: Officer Jacob Perez was driving down Willow Creek Drive when he noticed a Jeep Cherokee illegally parked on the street after 2 a.m. As he shined his spotlight to get the license plate number on the Jeep to issue a parking ticket, he spotted a male and female in the back of the sport utility vehicle.

Upon noticing the officer's presence, the male, later identified as Cory Kay and the female, identified as Jennifer Karney, exited the vehicle very quickly.

As Perez was speaking with the pair, he noticed they were acting very nervous and it seemed to the officer they were in a hurry to get out and away from the vehicle.

According to the police report, Perez conducted a pat down of Kay and placed him in the back of his cruiser for safety reasons.

As for Karney, she was found to be in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. She also had a prior drug suspension through Lorain County Common Pleas Court.

Karney was subsequently arrested and charged with drug abuse, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Aug. 13, 7:45 a.m.: Officer Harold White was dispatched to a residence on Brennan Drive in reference to a breaking and entering complaint.

The complainant stated sometime around noon on Wednesday, Aug. 12, he noticed his silver and black Gateway laptop computer missing from a desk in his living room. White entered the man's computer and its serial number as missing in the LEADS system. The investigation is ongoing. According to the police report, the laptop computer was valued at about $700.

Aug. 13, 10:32 p.m.: Officers Michael Taliano and Devin Small responded to Rt. 2 westbound regarding a call from a motorist who was following a silver Ford Taurus that appeared to be all over the roadway.

Due to construction on Rt. 2 within the Amherst city limits, Small initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle, driven by Julie Chlepciak, 30, of Elyria, west of the Baumhart Road exit ramp.

Upon further investigation, Chlepciak was arrested and charged with OVI, possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia, drug abuse instruments, weaving the course and failure to drive within marked lanes.

Chlepciak was released in to the custody of her father after posting $4,800 bond.

Aug. 16, 6:36 a.m.: Officer Luther Smith was dispatched to Days Inn, 934 N. Leavitt Rd., in reference to a vehicle break-in.

Smith met with the complainant from Pennsylvania who stated between 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15 and 6 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 16, someone entered his black 2003 Scion X3 by breaking the glass on the driver's side door. The thief took his RCA DVD player, valued at $120, and a Garmin GPS unit, valued at $300.

His vehicle was parked on the south side of the motel just outside his room. The complainant told Smith he did not hear anything out of the ordinary during the overnight hours.

His vehicle is insured and the incident remains under investigation.

Aug. 17, 12:46 p.m.: Detective Alex Molnar was dispatched to a residence on Cherry Valley Drive regarding a harassment complaint. Molnar met with the complainant who stated she was receiving harassing text messages from an ex-friend of hers.

The messages were so upsetting to her, a verbal altercation took place between the two involved on Friday, Aug. 7.

The same day the complainant contacted police, she received two others from the ex-friend's daughter.

The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
