Police Blotters for August 6

July 2, 1:02 a.m.: Officer Kyle Gelenius was on patrol when he observed an intoxicated male, who was later identified as Ryan Suta, arguing with another male in front of Cedar Pub on Park Avenue.

Suta was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct while intoxicated, disorderly conduct persisting, disturbing the peace and resisting arrest.

He was released on $1,650 personal bond pending a court appearance.

July 9, 12:36 a.m.: Officer Mark Cawthon was traveling westbound on Cooper Foster Park Road approaching North Main Street when he observed a green Chevrolet van in front of him. The van did not have a working license plate light as required by law.

A traffic stop was conducted and after further investigation, the driver, Gary Fitzpatrick, was arrested and charged with OVUAC, underage consumption, driving in marked lanes and failure to illuminate the rear license plate.

Fitzpatrick was released on a $1,550 bond and was ordered to appear in Oberlin Municipal Court.

July 11, 1:05 a.m.: Officer Devin Small observed a blue Dodge Dakota traveling eastbound on Elyria Avenue at an extremely slow rate of speed. In fact, Devin paced the pick-up truck speed at about 20 mph below the posted 35 mph speed limit.

Small also witnessed the driver fail to signal as he made a left turn from Elyria Avenue on to Middle Ridge Road.

The driver, Theodore Kata was arrested and charged with OVI, state refusal and failure to signal.

Kata was later released to his girlfriend after posting a $2,150 bond and ordered to appear in Oberlin Municipal Court.

July 12: Officers were dispatched to 24 Stonehedge Way in reference to a possible underage alcohol party.

Upon arrival, officers located the outdoor high school graduation party and they also found multiple teenagers walking around the area. At least two teens exhibited signs of being intoxicated and in possession of drugs.

Ryan Chrapczynski, 19, was arrested and later charged with tampering with evidence, underage consumption, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and obstructing official business.

Andrew Phillips, 18, was also arrested and charged with underage consumption and disturbing the peace.

The homeowner, Jeffery Jones, was also arrested and charged with providing alcohol to minors.

July 13, 2:17 a.m.: Officer Devin Small advised dispatch of a vehicle which was traveling the wrong way down Park Avenue.

As the vehicle turned right on Church Street, so did Small who was following behind.

As the driver speeded up and slowed down several times, Small initiated a traffic stop at the intersection with Elyria Avenue.

Upon investigation, it was concluded the driver, Gretchen Swann was intoxicated. She was arrested and charged with OVI, having a blood alcohol level over .008 percent, going the wrong way down a one-way street and weaving.

Swann was later released to her father after signing a $2,300 personal bond.

July 20: Officer Robert Lane was dispatched to Crocker Street in reference to a vehicle being driven through the back of a garage.

Upon arrival, Lane learned the 88-year-old male was attempting to pull his vehicle in to his attached garage, when the vehicle suddenly accelerated, crashing through the partially open garage door, through the back wall and then traveled another 45 feet before crashing through the front of his workshop shed.

Neither the unidentified 88-year-old male nor his 84-year-old wife were seriously injured.

Both of them refused treatment at the scene for their injuries.

July 21, 11:51 p.m.: Officer Jacob Perez was on patrol on Woodhill Drive when he noticed a tan Honda Accord traveling northbound, operating without a visible exhaust, which produced an excessive noise.

After Perez initiated a traffic stop, the driver, Micheal Opel, acknowledged his missing muffler, but told Perez he didn't have the money to fix it.

While Perez was speaking with Opel, he detected an odor of burnt marijuana emenating from the interior of the vehicle.

Opel was arrested and later charged with drug abuse, possession of marijuana, two counts of possessing drug paraphernalia and having a faulty exhaust.

July 22, 12:36 a.m.: Officer Jacob Perez was on patrol on Cleveland Avenue when he noticed a blue Chevrolet Silveraldo traveling eastbound, weaving from side to side.

As the driver, Jacob McQueen approached Washington Street, the traffic light turned red for those who were traveling eastbound.

Perez noticed McQueen came to an abrupt stop just prior to the intersection, activated his left turn signal and made what Perez called an aggressive turn, turning in to a driveway at a high rate of speed at 475 Cleveland Avenue.

According to the police report, it appeared to Perez that McQueen was trying to elude him.

After Perez conducted a traffic stop in the driveway of the residence, it was clear to him that McQueen exhibited signs of being intoxicated.

After further investigation, McQueen was arrested and later charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, having a blood alcohol level over .008 percent and weaving the course.

July 23, 2:30 p.m.: Officer Troy Donaldson was dispatched to Shupe Elementary School for a criminal damaging complaint.

Upon arrival, Donaldson met Anthony Jordan, who is the head custodian with the school.

Jordan stated he found four broken windows in a trailer next to the main building at approximately 1 p.m.

Two windows on each trailer had windows broken on the south side. Three of the windows had both panes broken and one with just the outside pane broken.

Several rocks were located inside the trailers and the mess had already been cleaned up by the time Donaldson arrived on-scene.

The staff requested that only a police report be on file for administrative purposes.

July 27, 2:57 a.m.: Officer Devin Small observed a blue Jeep Cherokee traveling southbound on South Main Street weaving from side to side.

The driver then crossed over the double yellow line, at which time Small activated his overhead lights in an attempt to initiate a traffic stop. The driver abruptly turned in to a residence at 830 S. Main St.

As Small approached the vehicle, the driver then quickly exited the vehicle. After talking to the driver, Small was able to get him to walk over to his cruiser.

After an investigation, the driver, Christopher Abraham was arrested and charged with OVI, state refusal, weaving in marked lanes, drug abuse, possession of drug paraphernalia, tampering with evidence, resisting arrest, unsafe vehicle and driving with expired license plates.

Since Abraham was unable to post his $14,000 bond, he was transported to the Lorain County Jail to await his appearance in Oberlin Municipal Court.

July 27, 1 p.m.: A 19-year-old female, claiming to have been a victim of an assault, came to the Amherst Police Department requesting to speak with an officer.

After all of the information was taken, the unidentified female requested arrest charges against a 23-year-old Matthew Kolcun of Amherst.

Officers were eventually able to make contact with this male at his home at 1170 Royal Dr., where police say the alleged incident took place. He was then taken in to custody without incident.

Kolcun has been formally charged with abduction, assault, aggravated menacing and disrupting public services.

He was then transported and booked into the Lorain County Jail.

July 27: Officer Michael Rosebeck was dispatched to Nate's Marathon in reference to a theft complaint.

Upon arrival, Rosebeck met with the complainant who advised he was approached by an unidentified male requesting change for a $100 bill.

The complainant offered to go to an automated teller machine to obtain the change and upon his return, he gave the male suspect the $100 in $20 denominations.

However, the male fled on foot without giving the complainant the $100 bill.

The investigation is ongoing.
