The Amherst varsity tennis team tied for first place in the 2008 Lakewood Invitational Doubles Tournament. Each of the six schools in the tournament sent four doubles teams.
The Amherst duo of Katie Coughlin/Bryana Adkins placed first among the 24 doubles teams at the tournament. The other pairs representing Amherst were Diana Noskova/Jessica Brooks, Maggie Smith/Kaytee Newton, and Rachel Szucs/Michelle Bremke.
The final team point totals were: Amherst Steele 33, Lakewood St. Joseph Academy 33, Normandy 32, Lakewood 28, Nordonia 27, and Valley Forge 14.

Special legislation allows veterans who missed graduation to be awarded their diplomas from their home schools.

(Photo by John Lasko) Construction on Cooper Foster Park Road between Oak Point Road and the Amherst city limits began last week. This project, which is a joint cooperative venture between both mayor David Taylor and Lorain mayor Tony Krasienko, will be entirely paid for by The Cleveland Clinic.

After dinner and a lot of reminiscing, the group attended the Workshop Players presentation of ÒG.I. Jukebox. Girls of all ages take part in a cheerleading clinic put on by the Steele High School cheerleaders outside of Power's Elementary School Thursday afternoon. (Photo by John Lasko) Terry Traster threw his hat in to the ring last week as a candidate for the open 58th District seat when form Huron County probate judge Thomas Heydinger cited emerging health problems as the reason he decided against running for the seat. Heydinger was appointed by the Democratic Caucus back in April to finish Matthew Barrett's two year term.
Traster will face off in November against Republican challenger Terry Boose of Norwalk.
The 58th District encompasses Huron County and parts of Lorain and Seneca counties. Two bikers from Lorain pay their respects at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Amherst, as well as lay a carnation in memory of the men from Lorain county who lost their lives fighting for our country in Vietnam. (Submitted photo)  The Amherst Girls Major League Falcons, ages 11-12, finished the season perfect at 17-0. The Falcons beat the Red Hawks in the championship game 10-3. This will be two straight years the Falcons have won the championship. Their record over the last two years is a combined 34-1.
