Local wrestlers place 32nd in Disney's Scholastics Duels
The Amherst wrestling team traveled to Florida this summer to compete in the Disney Scholastic Duals.
This AAU sporting event is known as the biggest summer team wrestling event in the nation.
There were more than 150 teams divided into three divisions with up to 60 teams in each division competing.
The Amherst Wrestling Club (aka Ohio Comets) placed 32nd in their debut at the event.
Amherst put together the following team:
* 103 - Mark Matos (incoming freshman).
* 112 - Dennis Rios (soph)/CJ Basinski (incoming freshman).
* 119 - Ryan Cruz (Sr.).
* 125 - Josh Meade (grad)/Rich Fadenholz (soph).
* 130 - Kyle Jones (Jr.).
* 135 - Ramon Castoneda (Sr.).
* 140 - Brandon Morgan (Sr.).
* 145 - Matt Zvosec (soph).
* 152 - Cornell Carter (Nordonia HS).
* 160 - Alex Basinski (Jr.).
* 171 - Mark Tomanek (Avon Lake HS).
* 189 - Forfiet.
* 215 - Andrew Brumenschenkel (Jr.).
* Hvy - Dom Sabarese (soph).
Winning medals for the Ohio Comets were Josh Meade (6-1) with a Silver Medal, and Ramone Castoneda (4-2), Brandon Morgan (9-2) and Cornell Carter (4-2) following with Bronze. Other wrestlers with four or more wins were Ryan Cruz, Kyle Jones, Matt Zvosec, Alex Basinski, and Andrew Brumenschenkel. Also winning matches were Mark Matos, CJ Basinski, Dennis Rios, Mark Tomanek, Dom Sabarese and Rich Fadenholz.
The Amherst Wrestling trip to Florida was paid for through fundraising. The team was co-sponsored by the following establishments: American Legion Post 118, Dynatech Systems Inc., Kids Inc., Hot Dog Heaven, Junction Beverage Drive Through, Amherst Eagles #1442, and Stroh Show Motor Sports.
