Midseason was rough for the Lady Comets but they never let it get them down. They produced a pair of wins in the final week of the regular season for some momentum into the playoffs.
A 4-1 victory over Midview and a Senior Night win against Fairview 2-0 gave the team the recognition they are due for their 8-6-2 record in a field of top-notch teams and players. Lorain and Cuyahoga counties have produced outstanding players for several years now and the crop gets larger every year.
Wednesday's game against Midview relied on the scoring prowess of Alexis DeFilippo who booted 2. She was joined by Brianna Shagovac and Carrie Kurish on the scoreboard.
On Saturday the mood was high but a freshman, Brianna Shagovac, made the evening when she first split the goal bars 3 minutes into the first half. Thirty-five minutes and a lot of shots later, Brianna made the second and final score of the game with an assist from Alexis DeFilippo.
The Comets have given their fans another great season of sometimes effortless play and occasionally nail-biting suspense. They'll be back on the field on Monday at home against Vermilion for the first post-season playoff.
