Girl Scouts help with pool renovations

Girl Scout Troop 257 has a big project ahead of them. The troop is helping with the renovations at Mil'Lympic Pool.
The junior troop has eight girls from the fifth and sixth grades. Most of the girls have been together in a troop since first grade Brownies. The two troop leaders are Cindy Mira and Leslie Woodard. The troop meets once or twice a month earning badges and attending fun events.
The girls are working toward getting their Bronze Award. The requirements for this award are completing two badges, complete their own Girl Scout Sign, earn the Junior Aide Patch, and complete a Bronze Award project taking 15 hours.
Troop 257 has chosen to help with the pool renovations because all the girls know people who use the pool.
"They wanted to do something that benefited kids their age," said Mira. The girls are repainting the putt-putt course and plan on adding landscaping to the pool's entrance. Perry's Plantation is helping the Girl Scouts with the landscaping by donating half of the plants.
To help raise funds for the project the troop has placed coin jars around the Bellevue community. Also, they are asking the community to sponsor stepping stones for the landscaping. Each stone will have a plaque with the family or business name engraved on it. Sponsoring a stone is $50 and anyone interested can call Mira at 483-0705 or Woodard at 483-4621.
When the project is completed the troop will present it to the whole Girl Scout Service in Bellevue. The ceremony for receiving the Bronze Award will follow in October. Throughout this project, the scouts are learning leadership and service. They hope to have enough donations to place a bench at the pool with their troop number to mark the work they have done.
