Save on Workers' Comp

FREMONT -- July 1-31 is the FY09 enrollment period for new Safety Council members who are interested in qualifying for an extra refund of two percent on their Workers' Compensation premiums. It is also time for dues renewal for present members.

In a special incentive program, the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation (BWC) is offering Sandusky County area employers a one-time refund of two percent on their Workers' Compensation premiums for active participation in Safety Council during the next 12 months. For many companies, the two percent savings will actually outweigh the cost of membership in Safety Council. And, if a company is already receiving a discount due to participating in other BWC programs such as the Drug-Free Workplace, they can still receive the discount of two percent on top of all the others.

To receive a two percent discount, local companies must join the Sandusky County Safety Council no later than Thursday, July 31; send a representative to at least 10 meetings between July 1, 2008 and June 30, 2009; submit two safety reports for the 2008 calendar year; and have their highest-ranking on-site management person attend one meeting between July 1, 2008 and June 30, 2009

An additional two percent discount, based on reduction in number and/or severity of workplace injuries as calculated by the BWC, is also available to Safety Council members.

Dues for Sandusky County Safety Council is $190 per year for one representative and $110 for each additional representative from the same company and includes the cost of meals at the monthly meetings. Only one membership is required to qualify for the program. Membership is in the company's name and not an individual's, allowing an alternate to be sent to meetings in place of the person who usually attends.

The date of the next luncheon meeting, to be held at St. Francis Health Care Centre in Green Springs, is Wednesday, July 23, starting at 11 a.m. Reservations are required.

If you would like to join the Sandusky County Safety Council, or would like more information, contact Jim Miranda at the Chamber of Commerce of Sandusky County, at 419-332-1591, or safety@scchamber.org.
