Five Bellevue Redmen duffle bags, donated by Lynn and Karen Middleswarth, owners of The Clothes Hanger, were filled with school supplies donated by Home Savings throughout the month of August.Ê On Thursday, Aug. 21, the first day of classes, the filled duffle bags were given to each local elementary school to give to one kindergartener in each school. TOWNSEND TWP. Ñ A fire destroyed a mobile home late friday night at 7475 St. Rt. 101. The call went out to the Townsend Fire Department around 9:40 p.m. ÒWe had guys at the Sandusky County Fair, Cody Byrd, 4, of Clyde, gets his face painted at the fair. Huron County Commissioner Mike Adelman, right, presented a variety of awards to a group of Bellevue Senior High School students during Thursday's Board of Education meeting. Certificates were presented to Julia Walters, front left, for earning sixth place in the state pole vault competition this past spring; and to a group of FFA members, including, left to right, Mike Henney, left rear, for earning the American FFA Degree, the highest given; Nicole Steinmetz, Eric Eberhard, Kreg Jenks, and Grant Decker, all of whom earned the State FFA Degree this year. Not present but receiving the same award were Kirsten Good, Trent Marteney, and Jacob Hernandez; and Heather Carbary, who received a top proficiency award at the state level. NORWALK Ñ A beaming Nicole Steinmetz, Bellevue, shows off the second place silver tray she won for her Christmas entry in the floraculture competition at this week's Huron County Fair. Steinmetz, who is competing in several other categories, helped create the traditional FFA display, which also took second place. In addition, she and virtually every member of her family can often be found wielding the grill at the annual FFA food booth Ñ home to Òthe best food at the fair, NORWALK Ñ Bellevue siblings Lauren Turner, rear, and Logan Turner, both members of the Lyme Producers 4-H Club, were busy with their ducks Monday afternoon as they prepared to show their entries at the Huron County Fair, Norwalk, now in progress. There are many Bellevue youth and adults involved in the fair, the largest for local people's involvement. The fair runs through Saturday, Aug. 16, with today being Veteran's Day and Kid's Day, which means free admission until 3 p.m. and for veterans, a single penny fee after 3 p.m. (Gazette photo by Sally Boyd)
SENECA COUNTY Ñ On Tuesday the Seneca County Drug Task Force-METRICH Enforcement Unit, in conjunction with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification, conducted their annual marijuana eradication throughout Seneca County. The multi-jurisdictional operation resulted in the successful seizure of 132 plants from  fields throughout Seneca County. The seizure has an estimated Òstreet value Members of the Bellevue Senior High School Redmen Marching Band have been hard at work preparing their performances for the 2008 season this past week. In the pictures, members practice their pre-game Òhigh-stepping Temperatures are going to steadily climb to the 90s over the next week. Residents can cool off at Mil'Lympic Pool at Mill Pond Park. The newly renovated, larger pool - equipped with water spray features (top photo) is open Monday-Friday, 12:30-6 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 12:30-5 p.m.
