Assessor Scholey has almost completed his duties and will be ready to report at Fremont in a few days. He reports that the valuation in the township will fall below that of last year about $2,000, while in the village it will probably be about the same.

The young man arrested in the country yesterday at the instance of Pat Collins told Pat he "needn't send Old Harnden after him for he couldn't catch his." "Old Harnden" got him, however. He generally gets 'em when he goes after 'em.

A frame building was erected behind Thomas Joyce's Main Street lot to be used by John Enright as a blacksmith shop.

Professor H.W. Robinson of Green Springs Academy gave up teaching to devote his entire time to running the Green Springs Echo.

The Vickery phone line was completed and in use. The Vickery phone was located in the Daniels and Lindsey store.

1918

James Carr stepped on a rusty nail which penetrated his foot and made it necessary for him to use crutches to walk.

Rolla J. Russell, wellknown farmer of South Ridge, lost two valuable cows from poisoning. Someone stole a quantity of Paris green from H.G. Baker's place and threw a lot of it into a cream separator and into a cream can at the Russell place and also scattered it over the pasture, where it was eaten by the two cows, with fatal results.

A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Bennehoff; and sons to Mr. and Mrs. Fred Noftz and Mr. and Mrs. Grover McKay.

1928

Announcement was made at the Board of Education meeting of a gift of $1,000 from Attorney Frank H. Ginn of Cleveland and his brother, Dr. Arthur Ginn of Nebraska City, Neb., and an oil painting of their father, the late F.M. Ginn, painted by Karl Anderson.

A substantial addition to the Clyde Library was made when 117 new books were purchased by members of the 1928 graduating class.

Daughters were born to Mr. and Mrs. Harold Rathbun, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Hummel and Mr. and Mrs. H.B. Reppetto; and a son to Mr. and Mrs. George L. Close.

Local deaths reported were: John C. Letson; and Mrs. Helen Stark.

1938

Mrs. John Kline recovered from serious bruises. She had been on a ladder picking cherries. The ladder tipped backwards and fell and Mrs. Kline was thrown off.

Attorney B.H. Dewey received severe lacerations about his face and head when his car crashed into an iron pole on the Cherry Street bridge in Toledo. He was cut by the windshield glass and had several teeth knocked off and broken off. He was taken to St. Vincent's Hospital in Toledo where he stayed overnight.

Eileen Taylor, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Walter R. Taylor, suffered from a sore foot caused when she stepped on a pitchfork.

Jess Hintz, 10, son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Hintz of Green Creek township, received a broken right ankle when a load of hay on which he was riding overturned.

Daughters were born to Mr. and Mrs. Carl Noftz, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Diebert and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hoffman; and sons to Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Fox and Mr. and Mrs. Francis Amsden.

Local deaths reported were: William Lee Feightner; Bobby Hughes and Mrs. Myra Ewart.

1948

Harold Eugene Mace, 12, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Mace of near Castalia, former Clyde residents, drowned in Lake Erie near Marblehead.

Carolyn Hartley, daughter of Mrs. Ralph Gray, received lacerations on the face when she fell from the bleachers at the park.

The body of Lt. Robert M. Hubbard, highest ranking Army man from Clyde to lose his life during World War II, was scheduled to arrive from the Philippines for burial in McPherson Cemetery.

James W. Ross, 22, drowned.

Local deaths reported were: Mrs. Anna Burkhart; Arthur Sheldon Nichols; R.W. Hiner; Mrs. James (Clara Gibbs) Parks, 75; Mrs. William (Sarah) Garman, 87; and William E. Gillette, 87.

1958

Lloyd (Casey) West announced the opening of a carry-out store to known as the "West Side Carry Out" located on West Maple Street.

A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Cless; and sons to Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Schlosser, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jennings, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Bookmyer, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Binger, Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Evans and Mr. and Mrs. Myron Grimes.

Local deaths reported were: Frank M. Pecalow, 75; Mrs. Ray Lee, 58; Mrs. Edith Zimmerman Kemp; and Mrs. Leo Ludell Henry, 66.

Mrs. Harry Mesnard struck and killed a cow on Route 20 just east of 590 west of Fremont.

Clyde School District increased by 5,300 acres when the State Board of Education approved the petition of several York Township residents who sought transfer from the Bellevue School District to Clyde.

A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Hall; and sons to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Zerman Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Ensign and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Fought.

Local deaths reported were: Leland J. Smith, 74; Mrs. Bertha Will Fox, 82; Edward August Wahl, 93; and Merlin (Whitey) F. Noftz, 60.

Local Welcome Wagon hostess Mary Jane Greenslade presented Mayor Patrick Wadsworth with a Certificate of Appreciation in observance of Welcome Wagon International's 50th anniversary.

Daughters were born to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Nitschke and Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Carroll.

Local deaths reported were: Charles F. Lund, 83.

1988

Clyde City Council was trying to determine causes of sewer odor in the city. Numerous residents had complained about the odor.

Fire caused $16,000 in damages to a duplex at 2210 and 210 1/2 East Street. The building was owned by Harry Manning.

Daughters were born to Mr. and Mrs. George McAfee and Mr. and Mrs. Rus Ladd; and a son to Mr. and Mrs. John Rader.

Local deaths reported were: Mrs. LeRoy (Alta Hummel) Frederick, 94; William Swanigan, 62; Mrs. Herbert (Dorothy Patterson) Boyer, 68; and Gladden W. Pickett, 94.

Green Springs Village Council approved spending between $400 and $600 for additional DNA testing in an upcoming murder trial. The testing will be part of the evidence being collected by the Seneca County Prosecutor's Office for the July 13-17 murder trial of Rosendo J. Tijerino, 29. Tijerino was indicted for the Aug.. 23, 1997 aggravated murder of Richard Lopez.

Sons were born to Allen Cooper and Shayna Withem and Mr. and Mrs. Todd Bilbrey.

Local deaths reported were: Gladys M. Lindsay, 97; and Bertha B. Ricketts, 93.

2007

The Clyde-Green Springs Exempted Village School District now has one year to move forward with a master plan which will completely renovate or replace all buildings in the district. Local school board members reviewed the $54 million master plan from the Ohio School Facilities Commission. Under the plan to bring school buildings into the 21st Century, the state would pay 66 percent of the costs of the overall project and the school district and it residents would pay 34 percent - $18.5 million.

The local community will have three days to celebrate the Fourth of July complete with a military band and two nights of fireworks. Events begin Monday, July 2 with the U.S. Army Field Band and Soldiers Chorus performing at Clyde High School auditorium.
