Pastor Lewis

The powerof the Lord

By Pastor James Lewis

Harvest Baptist Temple

Abundant, abiding, restful life, it sounds so good doesn't it? It would be such a relief. Who wouldn't reach out for peace, for joy, for hope?

But inside a lot of us, a small, sad voice keeps whispering something that keeps our stomachs knotted and our muscles in spasms. What is it saying?

If only.... If only... If only my child would come back to God, then I could rest in Christ... If only my marriage was happy, then I could know Christ's abundant life... If only I had a more fulfilling job, then I'd know Christ's peace. If only... If only..

You've tried everything you can, but you just can't change the situation. You've run right into a human impossibility. All of us do. Our mistake, though, is to think that human impossibility is also an impossibility for God. God's track record, however, tells us just the opposite.

God brought Noah, his family, and all the creatures with him in the ark safely through the storm to dry land (Gen. 7-8). God parted the waters of the Red Sea and led Moses and his people through it while he wiped out their enemies, who thought they had the Israelites cornered (Exodus 13:17-14:31).

Go so loved the world that He rolled away the stone and gave us a bright Easter morning, raising Christ from the dead so that we, too, could have a new life in Him (John 20; Rom. 6)

Human impossibilities are God's opportunities! Someone once said that we are all faced with a series of great opportunities, brilliantly disguised as impossible situations.

These great, humanly insurmountable circumstances are God's opportunities to show His power, mercy, and love for us. The Bible tells us this:

Jer. 32:17 "Lord God! Behold, thou hast made the Heaven and the Earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee."

Jer. 32:27 "Behold, I am the Lord. the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me? "

Luke 1:37 "For with God nothing shall be impossible"

Luke 18:27 "And He (Jesus) said, the things which are impossible with men are possible with God."

NOTHING IS TOO DIFFICULT, LET ALONE IMPOSSIBLE , FOR GOD.

Jesus wants us to place our trust in Him. Without saving faith, frankly, none of our other problems really matter.

It's ludicrous to ask Jesus to help you with a temporal problem if you haven't first settled your eternal destiny. If you haven't placed your faith and trust in Him, take a moment to do so now through prayer.

Harvest Baptist Temple, 1022 S. Main St., holds Sunday Worship at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. as well as hosts a 7 p.m. Wednesday service.
