Who is making
school plans?
To the Editor:
Who is on the committee making the plans for spending the $56 million for our school building program?
When does the committee meet?
How many times did the committee meet in the last two years?
Why has no one ever reported on the meetings?
Has no one heard of the Open Meetings-Open Records law?
Briefly, it requires all meeting of any committee of any public agency (like the Board of Education) to be public meetings with regular meeting dates, times and places published so anyone can attend.
We were told before the levy vote that a committee has been meeting nearly two years to work on the plans.
But I don't recall reading the who, what, where, when of that committee - or the levy committee chaired by Joe Wilson.
Since taxpayers have committed $21 million over the next 29 years, shouldn't we know who is involved in making the decisions and when we can attend those meetings to ask questions and offer opinions?
There was a time when the editor would have raised these questions.
