Cemetery
is beautiful
To the Editor:
The Clyde area people have been known for their dedication to their past. The town has made great strides in keeping the atmosphere both friendly and nostalgic.
Except for the appearance of many vehicles and paved roads, Clyde could be sitting in an early 1900 setting. It's nice to walk down the street and receive welcoming smiles and a "Hi, how are you today?"
But the one feature that really stands out, and that has impressed me for many years, especially since it sits right on our busy highway where everyone can see it while passing by, is McPherson Cemetery.
As a moderate kin-hunter, I have gone through a great many cemeteries, and can honestly (and proudly) admit I have never seen another one so neat and well cared for.
With the many flowering trees in early spring, it is a beautiful and comforting spot. I can only say that how we treat the memory of our forebears speaks volumes about how much we care and remember them.
The Veterans Memorial tells everyone how much their sacrifices mean to our community. McPherson Cemetery is a source of great pride and radiates a feeling of peace and contentment - and yes, if you are asking, we do have lots there ready for us when the time comes.
A long ago conversation with my Mother involved her praising the appearance of her cemetery (Bellevue, which also does a pretty good job of caring for theirs) and my cemetery (Clyde) was capped by my response - "yes, but we have a night light".

Woman was
a mentor
To the Editor:
It was with great sadness that I read of the passing of Tedca Baker in your May 28, 2008, obituaries. Mrs. Baker was a dedicated teacher and a wonderful mentor in many ways.
Her classroom did not end at the end of the school day. She involved herself in many, many activities as an advisor and sponsor.
Throughout the years she was the mainstay not only for our class, the Class of 1969, her daughter's class, but for many classes before and many after.
She was a "teacher's teacher", a mother, a friend, and most of all a wonderful human being who I know will be sorely missed by her family and her friends and those of us who had the pleasure and the unique joy of benefiting from her as one of her students or in one of her many study halls held then in the library.
To her family, Jane and her husband and relatives who remain, I know I am not the only one in sending my condolences. I know she will be sorely missed by the family but fondly remembered by all who were the better for having known her.
