The Marblehead Peninsula Chamber of Commerce had a truly successful 71st annual Spring Banquet that was held at Mon Ami's Restaurant and Winery on May 15.

Each year at the annual banquet a Business of the Year award is presented. To be a Business of the Year award winner you must be a chamber member, have a minimum of 10 years in business, and have community involvement or employee participation in community affairs. Becky Price, owner of The Shade Tree, accepted this award.

The D.S. Kirkpatrick Award was established in 1978 to honor the dedication and unselfish devotion to the principles of service to the community through the chamber of commerce as was given through many years of service by D.S. Kirkpatrick who came to this community as publisher of the Peninsula News and owner of the Peninsula Printing Company. Ann Duez, owner of The Victorian Inn, accepted the D.S. Kirkpatrick Award for 2008.

The chamber also recognized one of their chamber members, The Toledo Zoo. The Toledo Zoo had received a 2008 Green Frog Award from the Lake Erie Western Alliance for sustainability for their efforts to protect endangered animals and to adopt green practices.

Grant and Jodie McCallum were also recognized for the opening of their new gallery in downtown Marblehead. Their gallery will feature 15 different artists, most who have attained national and international prominence.

The speaker for the evening was Melamed Riley Advertising, who gave a great presentation on "Shoring Up Our Strong Position" and Branding Lake Erie Shores and Islands.
