Marblehead Peninsula Lions
The Marblehead Peninsula Lions Club celebrated it's 25th charter year with a dinner and program at the Lighthouse Resort on the tip of the peninsula Saturday evening, May 30.
After dinner and entertainment by the barbershop quartet "The Four Winds," the keynote address was presented by past district governor, Horst Herzog of the Port Clinton Lions Club. Lion Herzog spoke of the purpose of the Lions and the record of the club's service to the Marblehead Peninsula community. The Port Clinton Lions sponsored the formation of the Marblehead Peninsula Lions Club in 1984.
President Tom Henderson and Secretary Curt Laubner presented perfect attendance pins to 32 club members for the past year. Lion John Englebeck was recognized for having sponsored 10 new members with a Builder Key pin, and 25th Charter Monarch Chevron pins were presented to Dick Bell, Tom Gahris, Don Greene, Neil Merckens and Bob Schenk.
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of a Lions International $1,000 Melvin Jones Fellowship to Neil Allen by Horst Herzog. Lion Allen is a 50 year Lion member with perfect attendance.
At the end of the program the new officers for 2009-2010 were installed -- President Kay Verhoff, First Vice President Michelle Waldron, Second Vice President Richard Bell, Third Vice President Patricia Englebeck, Secretary Curt Laubner, Treasurer Charles Ohl, Tail Twister Gerald Mahler, Lion Tamer Brett Waldron, Membership Neil Allen, One Year Directors Donald Conte, John Engelbeck and Thomas Henderson, and Two Year Directors Thomas Hartman, Richard Kulaga and Mary Fleenor.
