Robert C. Rowley

Robert C. Rowley, 77, of Swanton died peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday evening, Oct. 4, 2008. He was born Dec. 22, 1930, in Delta, and was the proudly adopted son of the late Leo Cam and Mabel Leah (Harding) Rowley. On May 16, 1953, he married Mona Babcock, his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, and she survives.

Following graduation from Swanton High School, Rob enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, and served in North Africa during the Korean War. Upon his return home, Rob attended the University of Toledo. In 1955, he started working for his father-in-law at the Babcock Insurance Agency. He later owned and operated the R.C. Rowley Insurance Agency in Swanton for over 50 years. Rob subsequently sold the business to Insurance Agencies of the Maumee Valley and remained actively involved with his clients until his death.

Rob was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Swanton, American Legion #479, Independent Insurance Underwriters Association and Knights of Pythias, and was a lifetime member of the NRA. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and reading. He especially cherished the time he spent with his four grandsons.

He is also survived by two sons, Cam W. (Christine) Rowley of Dalton, Ohio, and Gregory L. Rowley (Jay Levin) of Swanton; a daughter, Renee (Dwight) Emerich of Lincoln Park, N.J.; and his beloved grandsons, Belden Robert Rowley, Connor William Rowley (USMC), Zachariah Cam Rowley and Zaylor Lee Rowley.

A memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Swanton, with Pastor Barbara Jean Pope officiating. A private interment at Dutch Ridge Cemetery will be arranged at a later date.

Friends may visit one hour prior to the service in the church parlor.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or Trinity United Methodist Church.
