Battle of the Bands planned at Corn Fest

The Swanton Corn Festival will be hosting a battle of the bands at this year's festival. It will be on Aug. 23 from 4:30 to 8 p.m. The prize for first place is $250 and $150 for second place. Sound equipment will be provided. If interested in participating or if you have any questions, contact Charlie Lane at (419) 250-4040.

Safety Village sign-up

Swanton Safety Village will be held July 28 through Aug. 1 at Crestwood Elementary School in Swanton. Children will learn about many areas of safety throughout the week. There are morning and afternoon sessions.

The cost is $8 and includes a Safety Village T-shirt. Registration forms are due today and can be picked up at the Swanton Board of Education, Crestwood and Park schools or the Swanton Public Library.

Absentee ballots now ready for Aug. election

Absentee ballots are now available for the Aug. 5, 2008, special election at the elections board office. Registered voters may vote at the Board of Elections office or request a written ballot be mailed.

In order to get your ballot you must provide the following: name, signature, current address, date of birth, a statement requesting an absentee ballot and stating you are a registered voter and if you want the ballot mailed to you.

You must also provide one of the following: driver's license; last four digits of your Social Security number; copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, or government document which shows the name and address.

Written requests must be received at the Board of Elections by 12 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2. All completed ballots must be returned by 7:30 p.m. on election day to be counted.
