Meals on Wheels man scares kids at home

A helpful man trying to deliver a Meals on Wheels package last week became a suspect in a police probe after he walked into the wrong house.

The man startled two children who were home alone when he walked into the residence on Johns Street with two bags of chicken and inquired, "Did you order this?" The alarmed children called 911 and for 30 minutes police patrolled Johns and Union streets attempting to solve the mystery of the man with the chicken.

The police were finally able to locate the man's vehicle and ascertained that he was delivering Meals on Wheels packages and had gone to the incorrect address.

According to Kimberly Carter at the national office of Meals on Wheels, volunteers are expected to knock before entering a residence, unless there is a sign on the door stating that they should enter or they are familiar with the route and have previously been to the address. However, protocol is not mandated by the national office but is determined by each local organization.
